Now in its eighth consecutive year, Habitat Young Leaders Build (HYLB) invites young people across the Asia-Pacific region to support families in need of decent homes, rallying against housing issues by volunteering, fundraising and speaking out. From December 2018 to April 2019, advocacy, awareness and fund-raising activities will be taking place in 17 countries and regions in Asia-Pacific, including Australia, Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
This year’s campaign will begin in Hong Kong on International Volunteers Day on December 01, 2018 with volunteers cleaning homes for low-income families living in public housing estates. In early 2019, we will recruit more than 100 volunteers to build homes in overseas countries, to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
We are grateful to have over 50 volunteers to join the HYLB from 12 to 14 April to build houses alongside three families in Shaoguan, China, including a teacher and 16 students from Aberdeen Baptist Lui Ming Choi College, Canossa College, Cheung Chuk Shan College, and Christian and Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School. Despite the rain, the volunteers are working hard to provide low-income families with decent and affordable shelter. Thank you to all the volunteers and hope to see you next year!
