Martial arts star JuJu Chan to run 10km at Race the Runway

1,000+ runners raise HKD120,000 for Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong

Hong Kong, 19 April 2018 – Actress JuJu Chan, star of upcoming film ‘The Invincible Dragon’, will be the ‘Master of Ceremonies’ at the inaugural Race the Runway event in Kai Tak Runway Park on Sunday 22 April. She is joining the event in her capacity as an Event Ambassador with Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong, and will also run the 10-kilometre race to raise funds for Habitat Hong Kong to support families in need of a decent place to live.

JuJu has supported Habitat’s work in Hong Kong for more than three years. Recently, she volunteered to build houses for low-income families in California, USA. “I was responsible for basic exterior caulking and tiling work. I think spending my weekends with Habitat is very meaningful; I felt very accomplished and happy to be able to help others,” shared JuJu. Running at Race the Runway will be her first ever 10-kilometre run and JuJu will only have landed in Hong Kong from the United States just a few hours before the event. “I hope jet lag and a long distance flight will not affect my performance,” added JuJu, who aims to finish her first 10-kilometre run in under 60 minutes.

Global non-profit housing organisation Habitat for Humanity is the benefiting charity of Race the Runway. The event is expected to raise more than HKD120,000 from runner donations to support Habitat’s work improving homes of low-income families in Hong Kong. Corporate teams from Aegon Group, Dow and Under Armour are among the 1,000 runners expected to take part on the day. “Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to help vulnerable and marginalised families achieve a decent place to live. An adequate, affordable home provides the strength, stability and independence to grasp life’s opportunities. I’d like to thank JuJu and all the runners for their support to our mission and enabling us to help others less fortunate,” added Heron Holloway, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong.

Runners will run a course situated on the former site of Kai Tak Airport’s runway, and get to enjoy panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and distant features of Lion Rock and Kowloon Peak. “We are honoured to have JuJu as our event ambassador for the first edition of Race the Runway Hong Kong,” said David Shin, of event organisers Sporting Republic. “Her enthusiasm for sports and competition truly embodies the spirit of the event and we are also thrilled to have her participate in the 10-kilometre race on the big day.”
