Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong’s Privacy Policy

In compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong (hereafter mentioned as “Habitat”) is committed to safeguard web users’, its donors’ and supporters’ personal information in respect of its collection, use, retention, security, transfer, and access. Personal data should be collected by lawful and fair means and can only be used for lawful purposes directly related to the charity functions and other activities of Habitat. All reasonably practicable steps shall be taken to ensure that personal data collected and retained are accurate and protected against unauthorized or accidental access, processing, erasure or other use. No personal data shall be disclosed, used or transferred to other organizations or individuals without the prior consent of web users. Only authorised staff of Habitat, who are well trained in properly handling of personal information, are permitted to access such information.

Purposes of collecting personal information

You will be asked to provide Habitat with personal data about yourself including your name, contact details and credit card payment details etc., in order for you to:

Sign up for an event or activity

At the time of collection of your personal data, we will indicate what is mandatory and what is optional. If you choose not to let us have the mandatory information, we may not be able to provide the related services or products requested by you. By submitting your personal data to Habitat, you consent to Habitat’s usage of your data in accordance with this privacy policy statement.

Collection and Use

When you visit our website, our service provider will only record your Domain Name Server address and the pages you have visited to compile statistics to show the number of visits and types of browsers used etc. for record and reporting purposes. No personally identifiable information will be collected. The service provider only discloses to us aggregate information about the number and types of visitors. We use this information to analyse the viewing habits of our visitors to help improve our site to make it more useful.

Registration / Online Donation

When you register or make a donation via our website, your personal information will be securely encrypted. Your credit card information will only be collected by the bank/Visa/Master/American Express companies via their payment gateway for the purpose of processing the donation payment. Habitat will not be disclosed any of the credit card information. Other personal information such as donor’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address will be securely encrypted by SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) while transferring to Habitat’s system. Such personal information will only be used for the purposes of issuing and sending of donation receipts and mailing of Habitat’s promotional materials.

Retention and disposal of personal data

Habitat strives not to maintain personal data for longer than necessary in order to fulfill the purposes of which it was collected. As a general rule, we store in our database:

Donation records for at least 7 years
Personal particulars of event participants, campaign supporters, volunteers and mailing list subscribers for 3 years

All information above is disposed of by secure means.

Disclosure of information

Unless required by law, Habitat will not disclose your personal data to any third parties without your consent. Habitat shall not sell, rent or exchange our donors’ personal information to other organisations or individuals.
